PeacePlus Nature Partners Connect in Donegal

The PeacePlus Nature Programme Board recently gathered in County Donegal for a valuable site visit hosted by project partner BirdWatch Ireland

Bringing together the programme partners, with representatives from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to share progress on PeacePlus Nature, and a chance to see first-hand the work BirdWatch Ireland are doing for Breeding Waders.

During a site walkthrough at Magheragallon, the board had the chance to review the current predator fencing which helps protect key populations of breeding waders, including Lapwing, Dunlin, Snipe and Golden Plover. BirdWatch Ireland shared their plans to upgrade the fencing, which is critical to improving chick survival and nest success rates.

Cross-border partnerships like this allow us to pool expertise and knowledge sharing across the partners to help deliver landscape-scale restoration.
